ssl/sshd compile problem

I recently compiled the new openssl-0.9.7d on an Ultra 1 , Solaris
8 machine, and recompiled openssh-3.7.1p2. Now, the binary for sshd will
not run on Sparc 20's(sun4m).

When I try to execute the binary, I see the following:

# ./sshd -d
./sshd: cannot execute binary file

# file sshd
sshd: ELF 32-bit MSB executable, SPARC32PLUS, V8+ Required, version 1,
dynamically linked (uses shared libs), not stripped

Obviously something got compiled into the openssl or openssh binary that
is not compatible with the sun4m processor. If anyone can suggest a
compile time option that would make this binary compatible with both
sun4u and sun4m, I would greatly appreciate it. Other suggestions
welcome.

Thank you.
