Hi All,

Still no closer to solving the slow backup procedure ...... Here is what people have suggested so far .....

Check that both interfaces are configured the same on both the servers - And they are -

[root@richemontdev]> ksh ndd_check.sh stat hme
richemontdev NIC properties.
Checking /dev/hme...
Status Speed Mode auto-negotiate
------ ----- ---- --------------
online 100 Mbps Full-Duplex off

[root@richemont1 trevor]> ksh ndd_check.sh stat hme
richemont1 NIC properties.
Checking /dev/hme...
Status Speed Mode auto-negotiate
------ ----- ---- --------------
online 100 Mbps Full-Duplex off

In the output below I have tried another suggestion which is using a blocking factor of 126 - This is the ufsdump command -

ufsdump 0ubf 126 richemont1:/dev/rmt/0n / >> $LOG_FILE 2>&1

And look how slow the backup is going, below ---- !!!!!

Start dump of / filesystem to tape at Tue Mar 23 15:14:00 WET 2004
  DUMP: Writing 63 Kilobyte records
DUMP: Date of this level 0 dump: Tue Mar 23 15:14:01 2004
DUMP: Date of last level 0 dump: the epoch
  DUMP: Dumping /dev/rdsk/c0t0d0s0 (richemontdev:/) to richemont1:/dev/rmt/0n.
DUMP: Mapping (Pass I) [regular files]
  DUMP: Mapping (Pass II) [directories]
  DUMP: Estimated 3937282 blocks (1922.50MB).
  DUMP: Dumping (Pass III) [directories]
DUMP: Dumping (Pass IV) [regular files]
DUMP: 1.01% done, finished in 17:14
DUMP: 2.25% done, finished in 16:22
DUMP: 3.28% done, finished in 16:38
DUMP: 4.30% done, finished in 16:48
DUMP: 5.53% done, finished in 16:13
[root@richemontdev]> date
Tue Mar 23 16:16:52 WET 2004

In about an hour, it has backed up 5.53% of nearly 2gb, which in my estimates is about 110mb an hour ... Pretty slow, no ?

Does anyone else have any suggestions ?
Solaris 8, DDS4 tape drive, E250.

Regards
Tis
