Sendmail Problem

I have a Solaris 8 system with what appears to be a mail problem, it is
producing the following error:

Mar 18 21:45:00 system1 sendmail[27532]: [ID 801593 mail.alert]
i2J5j03K027532: SYSERR(root): queueup: cannot create queue temp file
./tfi2J5j03K027532, uid=10022: Permission denied

I cannot send mail, even as root. It just spits out this error every so
often...

Any help appreciated...
