V440 Solaris 9 installation

Hi gurus

I have ancountered a problem that I don't know why it happens and/or how
to resolve it (I did find a work around for it though, but more about it
later). I installed 2 V440 systems today with solaris 9. I tried to install
Solaris 9 by starting the process from the Install CD. Once the install CD
was done it asked for Software #1. Everytime I pressed enter to let it read
the CDROM it claimed that it can't read the disc and asked me to try again.
A friend suggested that I boot using software #1 instead of using the
install CDROM. This bypassed the problem. When the installation from disk 1
was done and the installer asked for software #2, the same problem popped
up: It couldn't read the cdrom in the drive. The work around I found was to
cuase the installer to drop to ok prompt and reboot the computer from that
point. Once the os started to load, found software #2 in the drive it was
happy to keep installing the software from it.
I can't make sense of this :( has anyone experienced this problem and
found why and how it happens?

TIA

        Paolo
