All:
gtar worked.
Thanks to many, instantaneous responses, most people suggested using
gnu-tar.
Thanks,

Subject: tarring up maaaany subdirectories
Dear All:
I need to tar/move a directory, which has a ton of sub-directories in
it, and i guess, i am hitting the limit for maximum directories, as i
get the "Too many links - cannot create" error.
bash-2.03# ls | wc
32777 32777 193781
bash-2.03#
This is a solaris 7 box, and i have an option to move the directory to a
Linux box.
I read briefly, that the limit in Solaris cannot be increased.
Question is how do i create, maybe, 2 or 3 tar archives instead of one
big? Is there any other solution? Maybe rsync the whole thing to the new
server?
Thanks,
Anjan
