Same data files on two mounted volumes, different Kb Usage from df -k ?

Hi

I am looking to clarify a situation I have,

a UFS mounted T3 Array (9x72's - 1 volume, raid 5) shows :

/dev/dsk/c7t1d0s6 492519522 210527050 277067277 44%
/newarchive

The exact same data also exists on a collection of 18GB disks in 2
D1000 shelves bound into what looks like one striped volume by vxvm
(I have never seen jbod disks configured in this way under vxvm
before?!)
I inherited the system with the data on just the vxvm partition, I am
migrating this to a recently added t3, the data on the t3 is ufs for the
mo, I intend to create a striped volume manager partition on the t3 in
time..

The df -k output for the old vxvm partition shows:

/dev/vx/dsk/vg01 265222840 210419859 28280697 89%
/opt/archive/vg01

My initial point to clarify is, why the "kbytes used" is so different
when the data is the same on each volume (all the files are tiffs, each
file matches up in size with its copy on the other volume)

My second clarification point, I will provide the vxprint output for
comments, why would someone configure the disks like this? I just dont
see what they were trying to achieve....
