hi
i know its horriby insecure etc but i have no choice.

Anyway, i'm having problems setting rcp up. I can set
up scp ok but unfortunately not whats needed. Typical.
:)
I have two solaris 8 boxes server1.domain and
server2.domain.
both have a user "person".

so in person home dir i have a .rhosts with the other
server's name in it in full followed by username
person. i've disabled dns for now and am just using
/etc/hosts. in /etc/hosts they both have the
servername in full with domain and can ping it etc.

i've enabled the r shell command
in /etc/inetd.conf and restarted inetd.

shell stream tcp nowait root /usr/sbin/in.rshd

so i can try from either machine -
rcp $HOME/testfile servername.domain:testfile
but i just get permission denied no matter what way
round i go.

rcp filename server1.domain:$HOME/filename
rcp: filename: Permission denied

I can telnet ok both ways to port 514 which i think is
the rcp port.

Any ideas what i'm missing ? i'm thinking theres
something else i need to enable as this box has been
secured up with ssh etc and i'm trying to bring it
back down as it were to test a real life situation.
Thanks.
Elaine
