Dear Sun Managers,
I've a Solaris 9 machine. I'm getting file system full
although df -k shows file system is not only 67% full.
I suspect that the problem is caused by fragmentation
as there are many small files in this file system.
As proved and shown below:
# fsck -N /dev/md/rdsk/d10
** /dev/md/rdsk/d10 (NO WRITE)
** Currently Mounted on /data01
** Phase 1 - Check Blocks and Sizes
** Phase 2 - Check Pathnames
** Phase 3 - Check Connectivity
** Phase 4 - Check Reference Counts
** Phase 5 - Check Cyl groups
6854737 files, 44147691 used, 14165443 free (14165443
frags, 0 blocks, 24.3% fragmentation)
The fragmentation for this filesystem on 'd10' is
at 24.3%, which explains why the filesystem is acting
as if it is 'full' with 'df -k' only showing 67% full.
I has lots of small files in these file systems and I
read one docs for the workaround is to decrease block
size to improve on the problem. But based on document:
http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/805-7228/6j6q7uf0l?a=view
excerpted below:
By default, the logical block size is 8192 bytes (8
Kbytes) for UFS file systems. The UFS file system
supports block sizes of 4096 or 8192 bytes (4 or 8
Kbytes). 8 Kbytes is the recommended logical block
size.
SPARC only -
You can only specify 8192-byte block size on the sun4u
platform.
I have a few questions:
(a) My machine is E420R. Does it mean that I can't
specify the blocksize to be 4Kbytes on the sun4u
platform?
(b) What should be the solution for this and how can I
resolve this issue?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
Andrew
