tape/scsi error - <device>: write protected or reserved.

G'day all,

I've got a backup problem with a sun E250 on which we changed the tape
drive a number of weeks ago. Directly after the change everything worked
fine, until last Friday when the backup script started failing. The
error we get is: '/dev/rmt/0n: write protected or reserved.'. The tape
is not write protected.

In an effort to repair this, I patched the box with the last patch
bundle. I found a netbackup patch readme (for Solaris 8) that mentioned
this and suggested that this was due to a bug in the st driver. Patch
113277-17 is the last st driver patch that I could find, and it is
installed. The drive produces the error even directly after a cold
reboot, when `mt erase` is the first command issued. I did also power
off the tape drive enclosure during the reboot.

The bug description contained a workaround, which I applied (tried to):
set the ST_NO_ RESERVE_RELEASE flag (0x20000) in the st.conf line. This
didn't help either, not even after a cold reboot.

Any suggestions are welcome. Is the syntax in the st.conf right?

Thanks,
Tony
