cdrom problem

hi
I bet this is really simple but i can't find out what
it is. I've seen lots on this , but none of it is
helping me. the o/s just won't see the cdrom except
that after i put a cd in i have to reboot to eject it.
latest solaris 9 d/l and latest rec. patch cluster on
it.sun fire v440
I booted from the cdrom to install os so it seems to
be connected ok.

i've made sure # smserverd to support removable media
devices
100155/1 tli rpc/ticotsord wait root
/usr/lib/smedia/rpc.smserverd rpc.smserverd
is uncommented in /etc/inetd.conf and restarted inetd.
i've restarted volmgt.

Ive stopped volmgt and tried to manually mount -
mount -F hsfs -o ro /dev/dsk/c1t6d0s0 /cdrom
mount: /dev/dsk/c1t6d0s0 is already mounted, /cdrom is
busy,
or allowable number of mount points exceeded

all the disks are c1 so i presume the above is cdrom
location.
probe-scsi didn't show me a cdrom.

After i put the cdrom in the drive its locked till i
reboot to get it out but eject just says no such
directory...

I've tried a few cd's (bought cds not cdrs) and all
the same behaviour.
Any ideas ?
