Hello all!

Some of our offices are NFS mounting main office filesystems
using VPN (Cisco VPN, Lan2Lan).

We're using direct maps, client /etc/auto_direct:

% cat /etc/auto_direct
/staff -rw odin:/staff
/smod -rw odin:/smod
/common -rw odin:/common
/projects -rw freya:/projects
/testdata -rw freya:/testdata
/seisdata -rw lom:/seisdata

Main office file servers:

odin & freya are Solaris 9, Sun 280R. Filesystem is vxfs.
lom is an Sun Ultra 10, Solaris 8, ufs.

Clients:

    Ultra 10 & SunBlade 100, Solaris 8 and 9.

The problem is that the clients looses their NFS connections
from time to time, leaving the mounted filesystem unavailable...

 From client saturn:/var/adm/messages:

Jan 31 13:56:30 saturn nfs: [ID 563706 kern.notice] NFS server freya ok
Feb 2 08:21:39 saturn nfs: [ID 333984 kern.notice] NFS server freya not
responding still trying

responding still trying
Feb 10 15:32:20 saturn nfs: [ID 333984 kern.notice] NFS server lom not

The client does not manage to restore the mount afterwards, we'll have
reboot the client... The servers are up and running all time time.

% uname -a
SunOS saturn 5.8 Generic_108528-23 sun4u sparc SUNW,Sun-Blade-100

Suggestions/recommendations are very welcome!!

Thanks!

Best regards,

Nils K. Schxyen
