Re: Live Upgrade

I only received one reply to this question, and we were unable to resolve the
problem. It was suggested that I go from 7 to 8 rather than 9 for compatibility
issues, but because this box runs only NIS+ there shouldn't be any. Besides, I
would have to reboot into a week old 7, delete the BE for 9, create a new BE,
and I would still have to upgrade the OS to 64-bit and install additional
software. I can't waste anymore time on this. I have no choice but to do an
upgrade off the CD. While I would prefer not to do it this way, it seems that
there is no automatic way to do this.

Hello All-

I have an Ultra-5 running 7 that I want to upgrade to 9. This box is the NIS+
root master. There are replicas, but if I do a CD install we can't change any
tables for hours. I want to keep downtime to a minimum. I've run LU on this
box, and it is now running 9 under the new BE. But I also want to modify the
installed software list and convert to 64-bit OS.

Is there a sane way to add the required packages (anyone have a list?) to a
running 32-bit host to make it run 64-bit? Is there a way to force LU to run an
interactive upgrade so I can customized software selections? Is there a way to
use a JumpStart profile? I have no problem with rebooting to Sol-7 and running
the LU utilities again if that will help.

Thanks,
Sal
