I want to thank all your for providing the use full information.

This solved my problem

you have to add the line:

user1 localhost:/export/home/&

to your /etc/auto_home file
(the & character represents the login name)

you can (re)start autofs by
/etc/init.d/autofs start

I have another question:

For each user do I have to add the entry in /etc/auto_home or any otherway I
can do this for all users.

Thanks
Sundaram
