How to update disk firmware on system disk?

This could very well be a real stupid question...

How would one update the disk firmware on the system disk
on an Ultra80? Obviously the disk cannot be mounted during
the update, so can one boot from CDROM and then put in a new
CD with the firmware update on it? Will the OS complain?

God help you if you get in the middle of the update and
the OS needs to access something on the Solaris CD and chokes!

Platform: Ultra80, Solaris 8 with recent recommended patches
Disk: ST318203LC SCSI disk, 18GB
Firmware Update Patch: 113669-01
