java app server/mod_perl on sparc IIIi

I'm contemplating getting a sun 440 to save some money over a sun 480. Is
anyone out there using tomcat or a similar java app server on a sparc IIIi
box? Have you by chance compared the performance with that of a sparc
IIIcu box?

i can read spec.org benchmarks all day but I have a hard time making a
decision based on those numbers. I'm not planning on shutting down 3 of
the 4 processors and having my machine play chess or do lots of gzipping.

On top of running tomcat this box will need to run some pretty resource
intensive mod_perl and mod_ssl stuff (the mod_perl is much worse than the
mod_ssl).

So is this a generic enough question?

I've only seen one other question in the archives asking the difference
between the sparc III cu and the sparc IIIi, and the poster was told that
the difference in cache size will make a difference in "computation
intensive environments like oracle". They were also told that weblogic
type app servers on the IIIi should see 85-100% the performance of the
sparc III Cu. I don't know if tomcat is "computation intensive" but it's
certainly CPU intensive on a sparc II 450.

How big of a step up do you think a 4 processor 1.28 ghz sparc IIIi 440
will be from a 450mhz sparc II (with 4mb cache) 420r?
