Extremely green Sys Admin needs help.

I have a little Ultra2 system here that it seems most of the previous Sys
Admins have forgotten about and I have now acquired. Most of my experience
(limited as it may be) has been on HP-UX boxes and I have to admit that I
am finding myself at a loss on a boot issue.

We have a box that seems to be stuck in a boot malfunction right now and
all I can tell you about it right this second is that the light on the CD
ROM is blinking constantly as if it is reading some massive file from the
drive that never seems to quit.

I know that the idea of power cycling a box is not the best thing in the
world, but as a last resort I even tried that. The situation hasn't
changed.

Is there a trick to this that I haven't been told about or is this thing
simply dead in the water and requiring a technician?

Any help in this would be appreciated and is needed ASAP. This is supposed
to be a backup system for a monitoring system and management is getting
upset :-(

Regards,

John
