Okay, thank you all for your earlier replies. I have been able to boot
from a Solaris 8 CD (02/02) with 'boot cdrom -sw', then do a fsck of
c0t2d0s0, ~s3, ~s4, ~s5, and ~s6 (note: slices 0,3, and 4 had to
reconnect a bunch of crap). However, the fsck wasn't enough as I booted
to the same error:
Boot device: disk:a File and args:
Boot load failed.
The file just loaded does not appear to be executable
So now I'm trying to restore the bookblock at some of your suggestion with:
installboot /usr/platform/'uname -i'/lib/fs/ufs/bootblk /dev/rdsk/c0t2d0s0
The problem is when I do a 'uname -i' after booting from the CD, it says
"SUNW,UltraAX-i2". I have a Sun Fire V100. An 'ls' of /usr/platform lists:
SUNW,Sun-Fire
SUNW,Sun-Fire-15000
SUNW,Sun-Fire-280R
SUNW,Sun-Fire-480R
SUNW,Sun-Fire-880
So is the "SUNW,UltraAX-i2" correct? Or should I choose one of the
others? Perhaps just the generic "SUNW,Sun-Fire".
Any help here would be appreciated. Its comforting to know I don't have
a bad disk (after booting from the CD, I went into 'format' and did an
'analyze' and it came back with zero errors). But I'd love to be able to
boot from this thing again.
