E250 hung /var the culprit?

Morning Guru's

Arhh the joys of New Year office returns, coming into work this morning to
find our main file server hung.

Ive got some SCSI reset errors which will probably be the cause, I just
want to eliminate one last thought. /var had filled in the afternoon.
Would filling /var cause my E250 to hang? part of me thinks yes and part of
me thinks no. Any input would be great..
