problem trying to use an existing disk label during Solaris9 install

How do I get Solaris 9 on SPARC to use the boot disk partition table that I have setup prior to beginning the installation?

I have been having a problem trying to do this. I'd appreciate some suggestions on how to get this to work. Thanks!

Problem description:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have been trying to install Solaris 9 on a Sun Netra t1 which has two 18GB
disks. Before the install, I changed the partition table of the disk which I want to use as the system disk. The layout that I specified was the following:

format> verify

Primary label contents:

Volume name = < >
ascii name = <SUN18G cyl 7506 alt 2 hd 19 sec 248>
pcyl = 7508
ncyl = 7506
acyl = 2
nhead = 19
nsect = 248
Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
  0 root wm 891 - 5341 10.00GB (4451/0/0) 20973112
  1 swap wu 0 - 890 2.00GB (891/0/0) 4198392
  2 backup wm 0 - 7505 16.86GB (7506/0/0) 35368272
  3 var wm 5342 - 7122 4.00GB (1781/0/0) 8392072
  4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
  5 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
  6 unassigned wm 7397 - 7505 250.79MB (109/0/0) 513608
  7 home wm 7123 - 7396 630.41MB (274/0/0) 1291088

During the installation, Solaris wants to re-layout the disk in the following manner:

Disk Size MB Size Cyls
c0t0d0
/ 2848 1237
swap 1026 446
/export/home 13398 5823

During the installation I chose "Entire Group" and "Default Packages".
The installation procedure listed the two available disks and then asked:

Layout file systems on disk c0t0d0 (bootdisk) (y/n) [y]?
Layout file systems on disk c0t1d0 (y/n/e) [n]?

I took both default responses here ...

The installation then stated:

"At least one of the disks selected for installing Solaris software has file
systems or unamed slices that you can choose to preserve. Do you want to
preserve existing data?

Enter y to preserve data or n to skip data preservation. [n]"

I took the default answer [n] here ...
I thought that this would merely create new filesystems from the existing slices in the partition table.

Solaris responded:

"The Solaris Installer is determining size requirements based on your choices

File System operations:

1. Print the current partition table
2. Modify a disk's partition table
3. Return to the beginning
4. Done"

I chose #1 and the following slice layout was listed:

Disk Size MB Size Cyls

c0t0d0
/ 2848 1237
swap 1026 446
/export/home 13398 5823

How do I get solaris during the installation to use the disklabel which I had
already written on the disk prior to the installation? Is there a response which I answered incorrectly and resulted in the existing disklabel being wiped out and a default new one being applied?
