it was the /etc/shells file, i did not have the root shell in there, thanks

Yes i searched the web alot and did not find the answer to this.
I do not have a /etc/ftpusers file or hosts.allow or hosts.deny files, but
ftp wont let me login as root.
im running solaris 7 with the latest patches.
sorry if its an easy question.
