sun/netbackup/device help needed asap

Sorry to bug everyone on a Saturday :)

A few months ago, we revamped our backup system and build a new master
netbackup server on a e450, sol8 as I recall. We were using the existing
smaller Storagetek L40 jukebox, and then purchased a refurb Timberwolf
(much bigger, more drives).

Things were working fine using both tape devices, but the new jukebox did
so well that our backup admin decided to consolidate all backups onto the
new device. That night, all backups ended up failing, and when he came in
the next day all tape drives were in a down state.

We figured the new device might have a problem, so we pursued that angle.
We didn't quite finish testing as of last night, so he set backups to go
to the smaller L40.

I just got email saying that all backups again failed and the drives in the L40
are marked down. This seems to eliminate either tape jukebox as the culprit,
pointing to a problem on the e450, or something in netbackup.

So, to make a long story short, I'm looking for some BTDT, or suggestions on
what to check at the e450 level. Nothing unusual is shown in the syslog, other
than a clear pattern of scsi media errors as the tape drives are accessed.
After 3 failures, each drive is marked down by netbackup.

There are 4 separate HBA controllers in the e450, so it's not like everything
is hanging off a single controller, which would be my first guess.

The e450 is a dual processor, 1Gb RAM, 2 internal drives.

I appreciate any help/suggestions and will summarize as usual.

Many thanks.
