E3500, internal FC disks not recognized

Hello Sunmanagers,

Some time back, our company acquired an E3500 complete with a small SCSI
disk enclosure to hang off the back of the system. The system's
function isn't I/O bound, so performance wasn't really an issue, but
it's annoyed me that the internal drive bays weren't used.

We recently acquired some believed to be good 18GB FC disks for the
internal bays. The addition of FC disks is new to me - all of our other
Sun systems (V480, V240s, E250s, and U2's) run with SCSI disks.

I initially just put the FC disks in the E3500, and ran drvconfig,
devlinks, and disks. Yet no new items were created in /dev/rdsk, and no
new listings are seen in an 'iostat -En'.

I later scheduled the system for some downtime to allow a boot -r and
some probing in the OBP. While it may not be related, this message was
seen on reboot:

WARNING: Cannot merge hwconf devinfo node SUNW,socal@d,10000
WARNING: Cannot merge hwconf devinfo node SUNW,socal@d,10000
WARNING: Cannot merge hwconf devinfo node SUNW,socal@d,10000
WARNING: Cannot merge hwconf devinfo node SUNW,fas@3,8800000
WARNING: Cannot merge hwconf devinfo node SUNW,socal@d,10000
WARNING: Cannot merge hwconf devinfo node SUNW,socal@d,10000

So the question is, how does one provision new FC disks in an E3500.

If the process is indeed drvconfig, devlinks, disks (or devfsadm), I
would appreciate some troubleshooting information.

I have searched through SunSolve, but so far found no information
specific to this.

Thanks, and I will summarize.
