Environment:
SunOS skynet 5.8 Generic_108528-24 sun4u sparc SUNW,Ultra-250
I followed the instructions at:
http://docs.sun.com/db/doc/806-4073/6jd67r932?a=view
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fsrdb/71806
For setting up SMC to work with NIS+. Yet when I try to run SMC and
view User Accounts, for example, I get:
The attempt to view Users of Roles has failed due to an
unexpected eror. This was cause by the following
error:
CIM_ERR_FAILED
This happens when running it from my account or as root. Whether
System Configuration -> Users or NIS+ Tools -> Users. Google'ing
for SMC+CIM_ERR_FAILED, I find:
http://sunsolve.sun.com/pub-cgi/retrieve.pl?doc=fsalert/50763
This part of that latter document has me concerned:
To address the described issue, customers running Solaris 8
Upgrade 3 (1/01) and later Solaris 8 Upgrade releases should
upgrade to Solaris 9 (or later) with the appropriate patches
once these are available.
Upgrading to Solaris 9 is most definitely out of the question.
Anybody have any idea what might be wrong or how I might pursue fixing
this? Or do I have to hand-roll my own tools for NIS+-based account
administration now?
(It's pretty damn critical I get this resolved. I have user accounts
to add/maintain *now*!)
Thanks,
Jim
