sun storedge expansion rack and ups recommendations?

our client has purchased a 72-inch storedge expansion rack w/ 2 power sequencers and cables.

the (2) cables in question have nema l6-30p plugs on the ends.

hardware:

two v210s w single proc, two disks
one v210 w dual proc, two disks
one v440 w quad proc, four disks
   one 3310 w 12 72gb disks
one 72-inch storedge expansion rack w 2 power sequencers

question/s:

1) do sequencers have ups-like functionality? or are they just glorified power strips?

2) if we have two sequencers and still need ups capability, it seems apropos to get a ups that can accept both l6-30p plugs. yes?

3) the 'apc smartups 5000va rm 5u' seems to fit the bill, if we in fact do need one for these systems. does that sound right? ie, both sequencers plug into the apc 5000's two l6-30p receptacles.

4) if the servers are plugged into the rack (ie, the two sequencers) and the rack is plugged into the ups... how do the servers know when a power-off event has happened? how do they accomplish shutdown?

please forgive my ignorance in this matter; somewhat new to the 'higher end' sun world, having worked only with free-standing servers/upses in the past.

thx in advance.
