Lost root user!

We have a Sun Netra with Solaris 2.5.1 running.

We used to edit /etc/passwd by hand with pico editor and one of our emplyees
made a mistake and added a 'w' before the root username
(wroot:x:0:0:root:/root:/bin/ksh). The /etc/shadow file is intact, so the
root user exists in /etc/shadow but not in /etc/passwd.

I tried to boot from all flavors of Linux for sparc to mount the root
partition and edit the /etc/passwd file but none of them worked since their
ufs drivers only mount the partition as read-only.

Is there anyway to solve this?

Thanks for any help

Andre
