IPSEC Performance on Solaris 8

Does anyone know what kind of performance hit we will take if we start using IPSEC tunneling in Solaris 8. I see how to do it but we are concerned with performance both on the network and to the CPU. I am inclined to think that Cisco's VPN Accelerator is a better way to go but it is not possible here. BTW, we are using single CPU sparcs that run around 60% CPU bound and also heavy network use.
