Problem summary: A new, patched SunOS 5.8 Generic_108528-24 install
on a dual-processor E250 was hanging on shutdown. I'd tracked the
problem down to a K41slpd script.
Casper Dik provided the answer and solution:

Jose Luis Martinez supplied the following suggestion, should I ever
wish to actually run slpd (second item):

Thank you, gentlemen!
P.S.: I re-searched SunSolve, just to see if I'd missed something I
shouldn't have and unnecessarily bothered the list, and still came up
bupkis.
In closing, I'd also like to thank:

for their ever-so-helpful "out of the office" auto-replies. I don't
know how I would have *ever* survived knowing they weren't going to
be there for me.
