Failing disk

All,

I've got an old sparc20 w/ an external falcon RAID. During my last backup
the system generated the following errors:

WARINING: /iommu@f .e0000000/sbus@f ,e00010000/espdma@f ,400000/esp@f
,800000/sd@1 ,0 (sd1):
Error for Command: read Error Level: Retryable
Requested Block :1726640 Error Block: 1726647
        Vendor: QUANTUM Serial Number: 9605219005
        Sense Key: Media Error
        ASC: 0x11 (unrecovered read error),ASCQ: 0x0, FRU: 0x0

It tries this several times and ultimately goes fatal. It looks like I'm
losing this drive. The big problem being It looks like this drive holds
/usr and /var. I've not tried a format/repair yet because I need to ask the
list a question. I looked at the archives on the list an found some old
similar entries but my question is this: If I run format/repair on those
blocks and the repair is successful, will that effectively delete the files
on those blocks?

TIA,

Sean Jaehne
