Hi,
I tried Google'ing for this, but couldn't seem to come up with anything
that described how to go about what I want to do.
I'm replacing our venerable Sparc 1000e, running Solaris 2.5.1, with a
Sparc E250, running Solaris 8. In the process, I wish to change the
NIS+ domain to reflect a change in company ownership.
Will the following work?
Current NIS+ domain
host.old.tld is NIS+ root master server for NIS+ domain old.tld.
(The current NIS+ domain.)
New NIS+ domain
host2.new.tld will be NIS+ root master server for new.tld.
Host ultimately to be re-named to host.new.tld.
Execute "nisserver -r -d new.tld." on host2.new.tld to initialize new
NIS+ root master
server
Dump tables on the existing root master server to files with
"nisaddent -d".
Populate new NIS+ root master server from those files (after first
reconciling any disagreements/clashes between them and the existing
files [in /etc] on the new server, if any)
Replicate the entries in admin.groups_dir--making sure to also add
host.new.tld, which the new host will be renamed-to.
Take down host.old.tld
Reconfigure host2.new.tld to host.new.tld. (At which time it'll
assume host.old.tld's IP address.)
Take clients out of old.tld. with "nisclient -r" and put them in
new.tld. with "nisclient -i".
Thanks,
Jim
