problems with connecting to network

Hi ,

I've got a strange problem on my Ultra 5 system.
I noticed it didn't respond to a ping anymore, so I started checking.
First of all I checked whether my NIX was congifured well. That was the
case.
Then I checked with ndd the speed and mode, and it appeared that it ran on
10 Mb half duplex.
Efforts to bring the card to 10 Mb full duplex was no succes. So the port
of the switch to which the U5 is connected was set to half duplex.
Still no connection. The network admin checked the connection which
appeared to be ok. But when I connected the U5 again, sI still had no
connection.
So I did a netstat -r to see if my routing tables were there and correct.
The first two lines appear:

Routing Table: IP4
Destination Gateway Flags etc etc
----------------------------------------------------------------------

but I don't get a line of info about my routes. It neither returns to the
prompt.
When I tried to add a route to the defaultrouter, it said that that entry
already did exist:

# route add net default 10.125.84.254 1
add net default: gateway 10.125.84.254: entry exists.

I checked the message file , and it contained messages that the Ethernet
network was not available, and suggested to check i the link was up and the
cable connected, so no real help from the messages file.

Does anybody have a clue what is wrong, as I don't know how to proceed on
this.

I will summarize

kind regards
