We have 4 E450s and 4 E250s (Sparc II) in our shop. Now that Sun has started
on the Sun Fire line (Sparc III), what our some of your thoughts on how and
when to migrate to the new hardware.

I believe we have about 5 years for support from Sun on the old equipment.

Although the equipment would last for a while after support runs out I don't
think that it would be wise to try to extend their use beyond this time frame.
Should we try to get 5 years out of these or should we start replacing these
servers now. The servers are meeting our needs for performance now.

If we do need to upgrade the current servers, when do you stop and just go to
the new equipment?

On a more generalized note:
What is a good way to determine what the life expectency of the equipment that
is purchased? Experience? Are there some guidelines somewhere? Are there good
trade journals?

Thanks
