LDAP opinions?

Hello,
I have a rather small Sun environment of about 30 various Sun machines.
We've been running NIS for our authentication and we'd like to conver to
LDAP. In everyone's travels, what's the better route to take... Use OpenLDAP
or use Sun's iPlanet server? Is it possible to run NIS and LDAP
concurrentley?
