Need iostat -E data from libkstat in C

I need to programatically get the same data as iostat -E but I want to do it in a multithreaded C call. I know iostat makes kstat calls because I see them. The device is wierd however. From truss, the ioctl uses a kstat device of say "sd15,err" and "sd15" in two seperate calls. Any help would be appreciated. I know this isn't a developers forum but I've asked there too.
