Hi,

I am trying to install Solaris 9 x86 on a system with the following spec:

CPU: Celeron 300MHz
Memory: 128MB DIMM
Hard Disk: 4.8GB
Graphics: 64MB PCI nVidia GeForce 2 MX200 chipset
Interface Card: Realtek 8139, 100Mbps ethernet
8x CDROM Drive
Floppy Disk drive
Some kind of random generic PCI sound card (not bothered if that bit
doesn't work - no speakers to plug into it anyway!)

Problem I am getting is - I am trying to boot from CD using the install
disk, and the system is saying it can't boot from that CD. I have tried
changing the CDROM Drive to a different drive (a 40x CDRW drive which I
KNOW works perfectly) - no joy with that either. have ensured BIOS on
system is all up to date - it is. Have tried booting with another system
disk for a different OS - Redhat Linux 9 works fine, Mandrake Linux 9
works fine, FreeBSD 5.1 also boots from CD quite happily.

Should the Solaris 9 x86 boot from CD, or do I need to make a bootup
floppy disk first?

- A confused UWE degree student

Ben
