Solaris 8 question

Hi,

Its been a long time since I have administered solaris and I am quite
rusty in my head and cannot figure out one issue which has been making me
go nuts.

I had installed solaris8 on a SunFire v120. Everything went on smoothly
and the machine boots cleanly. When I try to add new users using useradd
command
useradd -d /home/tryuser -s /bin/tcsh -u 300 -g 300 tryuser
, it creates the entries in passwd and shadow files but does not create
the home directory. On examining I find:

dr-xr-xr-x 1 root root 1 Oct 6 10:13 home

I cannot change the permission bits nor can I do any manipulation with it
as root. What is this all about? Can someone point me to the right
directiion as I feel I am going round in circles (???!!)

thanks in advance

-bdm
