cpio "hangs" for 2-3 hours when writing to SDLT

Hi All,

I have a backup that runs by means of find, e.g.
find . -print | cpio -ov -C 102400 -H ustar > /dev/rmt/1c

This used to work fine to a DLT 8000. After changing the DLT 8000 to an
SDLT 320, the backup now takes 6-7 hours!
What I have noticed by outputting to a logfile and doing a "tail -f" is that
the find runs and then instead of starting to write to the tape the cpio
executes and just sits and after 4 hours or so, it suddenly starts writing
and is finished in 2-3 hrs.

If I tar a directory/files to the drive it works perfectly.

The system is running Solaris 8 and has all the latest patches as per
sunsolve.

Any and all ideas will be appreciated. I will summarize.

Regards,
Alan.
