How to record i/o of daily workload

I would like to test some configurations of Sparc servers in terms of
performance. But to make real tests I would like to simulate
workload of some of our production servers. I have read about
prex command which can "record" e.g. io activity. But what application can I
use to "play" the i/o on another server to simulate the workload ?
For example:
[x] means server no x

[1] "record" io activity using prex
[2] "play" recorded activity from server [1]
[2] change filesystem/metadevices/array layout on the server
[2] "play" again recorded activity from server [1]
[2] watch if the configuration is "faster"
[2] change filesystem/metadevices/array ...
etc
