"lost" default route

SunOS NAME 5.8 Generic_108528-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraSPARC-IIi-cEngine

One of my Solaris 8 servers "lost" its default route today. netstat -nr
showed the following (Note lack of default route):

Routing Table: IPv4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface
-------------------- -------------------- ----- ----- ------ ---------
10.11.0.0 10.8.5.1 UG 1 107960
10.8.0.0 10.8.0.8 U 11570432 hme0
10.9.0.0 10.8.5.3 UG 1 0
10.0.0.0 10.8.5.190 UG 11800657
224.0.0.0 10.8.0.8 U 1 0 hme0
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 4 8993 lo0

The /etc/defaultrouter file exists and is correct (plus, the server hasn't
been rebooted)

Low usage server, no one (really!) was logged in anywhere near the time
this occurred.

route add default put the route back without complaint.

Routing Table: IPv4
Destination Gateway Flags Ref Use Interface
-------------------- -------------------- ----- ----- ------ ---------
10.11.0.0 10.8.5.1 UG 1 107960
10.8.0.0 10.8.0.8 U 11570432 hme0
10.9.0.0 10.8.5.3 UG 1 0
10.0.0.0 10.8.5.190 UG 11800657
224.0.0.0 10.8.0.8 U 1 0 hme0
default 10.8.5.1 UG 1 729
127.0.0.1 127.0.0.1 UH 4 8993 lo0

Any suggestions on why a box would lose its default route? I'm stumped,
which makes it very hard to say it won't happen again.

Thanks,
--Jim
