device reconfiguration problem

I have a Sun Sparc Ultra IIi running Solaris 5.7 with the latest
7_Recommended patches. My machine rebooted after a cpu panic and the
messages log recorded,
nestor unix: lock_set_spl: 104399be lock held and only one CPU. Subsequently
the HP DLT80 tape drive attached nolonger was recognised, so I did a "touch
reconfigure" and deleted the contents of /dev/rmt. After the reboot the
/dev/rmt still had not written any files and I now find myself unable to
access my tape drive. Should I use drvconfig to force a tree hierarchy
rewrite and if so what alias should I use in the command? Is drvconfig the
most appropriate command?

The DLT80 was working prior to the reboot and show no signs of being faulty.
It hasn't been removed from the system and there is no signs that the scsi
chain is not terminated.

Any advice would be most appreciated.
