Solaris 8.3 file format.

Hi,

Okay, so I haven't RTFM, but this group seems to be quickest, fastest, easiest
way
of getting information. And I hope I'm not "OFF TOPIC" also. :-)
And I had a quick search for "filename format" in the Summaries and Full
messages, but
had no results returned.

I am burning a CD with a set of GNU files for a new Solaris 8 machine.
In the Windows environment (sorry if I cursed then :-)), the file name
displays correctly, e.g lsof-4.68-sol8-sparc-local.gz.
HOWEVER, when I go to the Solaris environment, this name becomes -
"lso_0001.68-".
And it seems the file gets corrupted as I was unable to 'cp' the 8.3 filename
on to the Solaris machine as the full name (Have I lost you?).

Is there a 'file' or something that can be done to get past the 8.3 filename
format?

Thank you very much in advance.
