Maximum number of symbolic links in Solaris 8

Greetings,

   We have reached a sitaution here on some of our Solaris 8 systems here,
where it looks like the users are experiencing difficulties when they try to
access a sym link that is buried deep inside the path, meaning, a sym link
pointing to a path which is a sym link to another path etc...

Ex: /test -> /opt/tools where /opt/tools is a sym link to
/export/projects/tools etc....

We have been told that this could be rectified by increasing the MAXSYMLINKS
parameter value in the header file /usr/include/sys/param.h and recompile
the kernel (not sure how would we go about doing this either, hence any help
on this would be great too). What I would like to know is, if this is the
only way to do this or is there an easier way to approach this, from
/etc/system or something like that?.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

PS: We cannot change the links to point to the final directory structure
(instead of pointing to a dir structure that is again a link) due to some
tool dependencies etc...

Cheers,
Srinath
