ADDITIONAL INFO: problem with "pkginfo" on Solaris 8

I reported a problem with pkginfo, which when run without a package
specified, eventually stops with "pkginfo: ERROR: pkginfo file is
corrupt or missing".

I received a number of suggestions on how to populate /var/sadm/pkg so
that the info necessary is there, and indeed there are directories in
this dir that have no content, and when I add the install and save
subdirs, and the pkginfo file, from another system, "pkginfo" then
reports the package as installed.

However, it almost never gives a count of files when you run something
like: "pkginfo -l SUNWadmj", whereas on other systems it always does,
and if you do a "pkgchk -v SUNWadmj" (on almost any package, including
most os packages, it in most cases reports: "WARNING: Package <SUNWadmj>
is installed but empty" (substitute whatever package we are referencing.

After running "truss pkgchk -v SUNWadmj", I found that the file:
        /var/sadm/install/contents
is referenced, and that on this problematic system this file is
virtually empty. I suspect this is at the root of the problem, but do
not know how to rectify this problem. Anyone have any info?

TIA!
