Netra X1 Lost Root Password

I have a Sun Netra X1 server that I need to reset the root password.
However I currently do not have the root password. My client tells me they
have no idea what it might be.

Is there a way to boot directly into single user mode (Maitainence mode)
using the boot command.

boot -s does work but it requires a root passwd which does not help.

The Netra X1 runs with no external drives so booting to cd is not an option.

Any ideas or suggestion would be helpful
