Thanks to all that replied. My original message is below. Some url's that were recommended:
http://www.setoolkit.com
http://www.sarcheck.com
http://www.orcaware.com/orca
http://developers.sun.com/solaris/articles/prstat.html
The tools that are NOT recomended:
perfmeter
top
psrinfo
The tools that are recommended and the number of recommendations:
prstat - 9
vmstat - 6
sar - 6
mpstat - 2
iostat - 2
uptime - 1
ps - 1
cpustat - 1
busstat - 1
Some general comments:
1. mpstat is accurate, it is core solaris, uses kernel interface (kstats driver)
2. CPU actually has a 100% load at all times. If user and kernel threads to do not add up to 100% CPU utilization, the "idle" thread takes up the free CPU cycles.
3. vmstat uses the same kstats driver as mpstat
Thanks again,
Greg

Subject: CPU utilization
Anybody know how accurate the tools are that measure CPU utilization on Solaris 8. The ones I know of are perfmeter, mpstat, psrinfo, and top. Also, are there any other tools to measure the CPU utilization.
Thanks,
Greg
