NOTICE: ata_controller - Primary Channel BSY set after reset

Hi folks,

Have an interesting problem that I've only seen
one other mentioned on any searches.

Background, Ultra5, 512mb memory, Solaris8 10/02,
recommended patches, 18gb drive, headless and no
k/b.

Have had this server up for almost 8 months now
acting as an ftp server for a local project,
development, containing loads of project data.
I have Big Brother doing my monitoring, checking
cpu, ftp, telnet, conn, etc. Late last night,
Big Brother started logging purple everything but
conn and ftp. I could ftp in, ping, etc, but
could not ssh in. Since it was off-site I didn't
get to look at the system until about an hour
ago. I logged in through the console server,
took everything down and rebooted since there
weren't any errors except for "telnetd: open
/dev/logindmux: No such device or address" in
/var/adm/messages, and nothing else helped
bringing the system to normal. The server
immediately went to boot from the net. I booted
from cdrom to su and got "NOTICE: ata_controller
- Primary Channel BSY set after reset". A probe
all showed no disk drive. Format gave this same
error. I opened the case and the disk spins up,
see the disk lights but nothing else. The only
mention on the web is that it is a known problem
fixed with Solaris8 02/02. Any pointers or ideas
greatly appreciated.
