`df' under solaris-9

Hello managers,

it's very hot today, so please forgive me, if i should ask nonsense...

I have a new Sun Fire 480R with 2 disks, 36 GB each and a newly
installed Solaris-9 04/2003 on one of these disks.

I'm used to the rubbish output (even if it is following some standards)
of `df' under solaris and that there are at least 4 different(?) `df's,
only one of them being able to handle columns with greater numbers...
(I refuse to try to understand that!)

But now `df' gives this output of my system disk:

# /usr/xpg4/bin/df -k

Filesystem 1024-blocks Used Available Capacity Mounted on
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s0 4127845 1402957 2683610 35% /
/proc 0 0 0 0% /proc
mnttab 0 0 0 0% /etc/mnttab
fd 0 0 0 0% /dev/fd
swap 30705440 32 30705408 1% /var/run
swap 30705408 0 30705408 0% /tmp
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s7 10818376 9 10710184 1% /d0
/dev/dsk/c1t0d0s5 1016122 14463 940692 2% /some-cache

(The numbers are the same with /usr/bin/df, /usr/sbin/df and /usr/ucb/df
only the column-structure differs...)

With `format' -> `0' -> `p' -> `p' i see this:

# format ...

partition> p
Current partition table (original):
Total disk cylinders available: 24620 + 2 (reserved cylinders)

Part Tag Flag Cylinders Size Blocks
  0 root wm 13383 - 16285 4.00GB (2903/0/0) 8386767
  1 swap wu 0 - 11613 16.00GB (11614/0/0) 33552846
  2 backup wm 0 - 24619 33.92GB (24620/0/0) 71127180
  3 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
  4 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
  5 unassigned wm 16286 - 17011 1024.00MB (726/0/0) 2097414
  6 unassigned wm 0 0 (0/0/0) 0
  7 unassigned wm 17012 - 24619 10.48GB (7608/0/0) 21979512

My understanding was that /tmp is put into the swap partition,
which is 16 GB. Why does `df' claim that there are 30 GB available?
Or do i still see "512-blocks" despite the `-k' and the header-line?

And why did the system leave this 2 GB hole between partition 0 and 1?
At installation time i said nothing like that.

With best regards,

Bernt Christandl
