Anything special about partition #2

I'm somewhat new to Sun equipment, but notice that it is customary when
partitioning disks to have partition #2 span the whole disk. Presumably this
is used by some backup type programs to backup the entire disk as a single
object, or similar type of stuff.

IS there anything special about partition #2? In particular, if I need to
use all 8 partitions on a disk, is there any problem in re-assigning partition
#2 to something other than the whole disk? (My backup software works on
mounted filesystems, by filesystem, so should not be using partition #2).
