Interface does not come up

Dear managers,

I am trying to figure out a problem with one of our Netras. The Netra
has two interfaces dmfe0 and dmfe1. According to the manual it should
be sufficient to create the files /etc/hostname.dmfe0,
/etc/hostname.dmfe1 and /etc/netmasks and both interfaces should come
up at the next reboot. This used to work. However, now only dmfe1 comes
up (no entry for dmfe0 in netstat -rn output).

bash-2.03$ cat hostname.dmfe0
centauri

bash-2.03$ cat hostname.dmfe1
62.154.134.74

bash-2.03$ cat /etc/hosts
#
# Internet host table
#
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.0.0.201 centauri loghost

This can easily be fixed by doing "ifconfig dmfe0 up" on the console.
However, this requires access to the console which I usually do not
have. Since the primary interface is down and the second one is not
connected yet I have no way to access the machine after a reboot.

Has anybody had similar experiences with a Netra and an idea what might
cause this behaviour? Thanks a lot!

Regards,

    Andreas
