Sorry, forgot to mention user isn't listed in /etc/ftpuser. (and I just
noticed that ksh seems to work, but with /bin/sh it fails.

Subject: FTP not working for ONE user?
Hi all. Strage symptoms.
machine stage will no longer accept the password for a user when ftp'ing to
that machine.
no error messages, user can log into box (telnet or ssh), and others can ftp
into the box.
nothing in syslog. tried changing password, locking, unlocking id, nothing.
havent tried deleting and reinstalling user yet. but almost ready to try.
now: user1 can log in (telnet/ftp/ssh) to machine stage
user2 can log in (telnet/ftp/ssh) to machine stage
user3 can't ftp (but can ssh/telnet to machine stage
user is using /bin/sh
home directories look normal
