revised SUMMARY: vold on solaris 9

I opened up a ticket with Sun, and I wanted to present the solution to
this forum. My problem was that vold did not start

17 mediaprod!/etc >> Wed Jun 18 15:13:03 2003 fatal: mounting of "/vol" failed
Jun 18 15:13:03 mediaprod /usr/sbin/vold[219]: mounting of "/vol" failed

in spite of the fact that the all of the vold packages were installed

system SUNWvolg Volume Management Graphical User Interface
system SUNWvolr Volume Management, (Root)
system SUNWvolu Volume Management, (Usr)
system SUNWvolux Volume Management (Usr) (64-bit)

and the necessary line was in /etc/inetd.conf

# smserverd to support removable media devices
100155/1 tli rpc/ticotsord wait root /usr/lib/smedia/rpc.smse

As it turns out, there is a further dependency: The three nfs client
packages (SUNWnfscu, nfscr, and nfscx). Make sure these are installed
or vold will not work.
